The use of resistant triggers has been a concern of mine since the announcement of the new DualSense controller. It is very important I mention that Sony does include the ability to change the trigger resistance at the system level – it can even be turned off completely if necessary. Artifact 1/2 “Buzz Controller”– At the first hang glider section, you need to try and reach the upper platform to the left of the platform you’re aiming for.

Spin all three to raise the platform they are on, revealing this puzzle piece. Artifact 1/2 “PS2 Multitap” – Shortly after that puzzle piece there will be an area you can go into on the left behind some purple vines. Light the fuse at the bottom with your ship thrusters to reveal this artifact. Puzzle Piece 1/4 – As soon as the level starts, turn around and head back across the platforms to find this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 2/4 – After reaching the next group of enemies circling a platform, go to the left where you can pull a wire and reach a tightrope. Puzzle Piece 1/4 – In the next section there are two groups of enemies walking in circles around a patch of dirt.

It didn’t change the core of the game, but it made the overall experience better. Coin collection in Astro Playroom is straightforward but requires attention to detail. Revisit levels after completing the story to find missed coins; Break objects like crates and ice blocks to reveal additional coins.

While many games supported the DualShock, very few utilized the right analog stick. JAPAN Studio’s own Ape Escape is famous for requiring the use of a DualShock for this very reason. It is easy to dismiss Astro’s Playroom as a child’s game, given the artistic design; however, it is more than that and can appeal to a larger audience.

Each world represents a classic PlayStation console from the PS1 all the way up to the PS5. Each level has a few secret puzzle pieces and artifacts for players to collect and use to unlock more rewards. In Astro’s Playroom, the adaptive triggers come up a lot, but the most obvious demonstration of them is when Astro hops into a spring suit.

At the Checkpoint overlooking the first mud pit, you’ll two a Bot with a Net looking for a Bot with a siren on its head hiding in a bush. [newline]This references 1999’s Ape Escape on PS1, made by SCE Japan Studio. Ape Escape is notable for being the first PlayStation game to require a Dual Analog/DualShock controller; you couldn’t play it using the launch gamepad. There are a few things that elevate Astro from being just another fun-but-forgettable platformer. I still remember the first time I played Super Mario 64, and how amazed I was that pushing the analog stick slightly would make Mario walk, while a stronger push would make him run. Playing Astro’s Playroom with the DualSense is a similar experience. These trophies introduce you to Astro Playroom’s creative levels and DualSense features‚ making them a delightful way to begin your trophy hunt.

Before we get to that, we’ll first need to find the GT driver’s artifact. From here, jump over to the wooden platform up the tree, cross over the DualShock Cable to another platform, then defeat the Spiky on it. Check the tree trunk here to find the clock depicted on the tube’s screen earlier. It seems the special bots are integrated into the guide as opposed to being tacked on as an addendum. Either way, most guides are from when it came out, and a lot more people have a PS5 now. Those that haven’t played it have been tempted to give it a go with a second installment being announced, so an updated guide will be helpful to quite a few I would imagine. Astro’s Playroom is the latest platformer starring Astro Bot that comes pre-loaded on the PlayStation 5.

To make it appear, you must stand on top of a big plant near the edge of the level, just behind the Bloodborne Hunter Bot. Inside the capsule, another Special Bot (Lady Maria) appears to be trapped and needs rescuing. But the joy of Astro’s Playroom, while largely focused on its use of the new controller, is also thanks to Team Asobi’s dedication to turning this pack-in into a mini-museum of PlayStation history. All of them are put on display to be looked at or hit to produce sound effects, pop open disc trays, and more. There are other hidden special collectibles in the levels too that I won’t spoil but they play into the other part of this game and that is how it is a love letter to PlayStation fans everywhere. Every level is full of references and Easter eggs to hardware and games that have released over the course of PlayStation’s 25-year history.
